The paper deals with the brief treatise De sphaera written by Gerbert of Reims. The text is one of the so-called scientific letters addressed to Gerbert's former pupil and close friend Constantine of Fleury (all these letters were probably written at the end of 70s or at the beginning of 80s of 10th century) and describes a construction and a configuration of an observational hemisphere. The Czech translation of the treatise De sphaera is accompanied by a short presentation of the letter writer and the addressee of the letter, the article also focuses on the content of the Gerbert's letter and analyses a construction, aims and uses of a described hemisphere.
